Who is J.K.?

It’s John, actually. I’m a full-time nature photographer based on Mount Desert Island, Maine - home to Acadia National Park. In 2015, I put down roots in Maine and founded J.K. Putnam Photography, with a mission to create meaningful, accessible photographic experiences for photographers of all levels.

Through private photo tours and intimate workshops, I share my deep local knowledge of Acadia, helping clients capture stunning images by understanding the region’s unique patterns of tide, weather, light, and season. My love for teaching and my enthusiasm for Acadia have extended to other parts of Maine, the U.S., and beyond, now offering enriching photographic learning opportunities wherever I travel.

My photography is available online and at my gallery in Southwest Harbor, where I live with my wife, our two young children, and our anxious (but lovable) dog, Bernard.
